"Imagine a place that transforms the North through innovative design, advocacy, inspiration, cultural reflection and the limitless possibilities of demonstration and education."

- Ecology North

"The land we stand on used to be pristine, untouched and undeveloped; this new innovative living building will show us ways to look forward to a future that will encourage the land and environment to be clean and give people the pride needed to take care of our future in a positive manner."

- Yellowknives Dene First Nation's Economic Development Department

The Northern Centre for Sustainability (NCFS) is a living lab and innovation hub built upon the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It will demonstrate cutting edge pre-commercial building technologies, and be the first “Living Building” in Canada’s North – one of the world’s most stringent eco-building certification programs. The NCFS will be carbon-negative and energy, water, waste, and people-positive. It will be a hub in which knowledge will move between Ecology North, the Yellowknives Dene First Nation, academic institutions, and isolated northern communities. This project will actively promote technology replication, build retrofit economy momentum in Canada, and be the first project of its kind in the North.
